Vacation in Torrevieja with Precaution

Many people from around the world may have at least even for a single time, thought of living in Spain. There are a lot of regions in Spain which are more than welcoming to accommodate any immigrants. However, not all regions are as optimally obliging to allow any new comer stay permanently. One of the well known places is Torrevieja, situated just south of Alicante, and a few minutes to a few hours drive from Alicante airport, depending on the traffic. It has a lot of lots and real estate available fro acquisition.

This would have been an ideal place to reside, if not for the recent rise in crime within the area. Regarded as a crime black spot, the main reason believed to be behind the gradual increase in the crime rate would be the police budget which cannot keep up with the coverage needed. The population in Torrevieja has increased, to which the budget had not.

Another reason for the suspected rise in illegal activities is due to the fact that the holiday vacationers and influx of people from outside the locality cannot be properly allocated with police coverage as they are not fully registered as an individual entity but as mere visitors. This, coupled with the language barrier makes it hard to coordinate the consistent police efforts of trying to protect the community.

Some of these crimes have been committed allegedly even by the very tourists and visitors among the rest of the community, and the local police have a hard time trying to resolve case after case being piled up on their desks.

One of the most common crimes incurred is car theft and missing car parts. This is evidenced by opened cars with missing components from within, to complete car losses. Police are having a difficult time tracing the trails of the missing cars as the language barrier is having a slowdown of the investigation progress.

Not all is bleak in this town victimized by a sudden increase of crime rate. There are still lots of other places around the globe which are far worse than what is happening in Torrevieja. It may just be regarded as a trying stage for the place as it faces the reality of progress and increase in population.

The security and overall safety of the residents and visitors alike still rest solely on self care and security measures. For example, doors to homes should always be locked to avoid or lessen the chances of getting burglarized. Personal identity papers such as passports, credit cards, and the like should be kept in wall safes and vaults. Thieves usually attack a susceptible target with the least presented challenge and with the greatest opportunity.

To those who have bought a holiday home in this place, it would be advisable to leave a key to a neighbor for safekeeping. Better yet, have someone act as a caretaker. This may be costly, but it would be worth the savings on personal effort and expenses if the house has been victimized by burglars.

Torrevieja may be at hard times presently, but it is positively viewed that it will rise up from the challenges and become an optimum tourist and holiday vacation spot.
